Module 5
I over heard one of my kindergarten students call another student a "nigger." This wors is offensive because it is a very harsh word to the call an African American. They become very offended by the term that was used by several years ago during slavery and they do not like it now. As a teacher I would pull both the children to the side individually and ask the students where have they heard the word and how did it make them feel. I would do this because sometimes as adults we make situations worse because we know more than the children because perhaps the child that had been called a nigger never heard the word before and isn't even offended I would explain to the child who said it that, that isn't a very nice word and hopefully in kindergarten they want know the full story behind the word therefore I can explain that the word is and ugly word like shut up or stupid and that they wouldn't like if someone called them ugly names and I would have the child to apologize.
